Now Open to Miniatures from Any Manufacturer!

In light of AdeptiCon’s ongoing expansion, the 2010 Rogue Demon Painting Contest will accept submissions from any manufacturer, including complete sculpts from the entrant.

Submission Entry Times
Friday 11:00 am – 10:00 pm
Saturday 7:00 am – 10:00 pm.

The Categories

1. Best Single Science Fiction Miniature
This category is open to any single sci-fi miniature, human-sized or smaller, mounted on an appropriately-sized gaming base where applicable. Cavalry miniatures, bike-mounted troops, and beasts approximately horse-sized or smaller are permitted. This category includes Terminators, but other models supplied with 40mm or larger bases should be entered in the Large Monster or Vehicle category.

2. Best Single Fantasy Miniature
This category is open to any single fantasy miniature, human-sized or smaller, mounted on an appropriately-sized gaming base where applicable. This includes single models mounted on horses, boars, wolves, etc. but not those mounted on large monsters.

3. Best Single Historical Miniature
This category is open to any single historical miniature from any era – ancient through modern. Models may be of any scale from 25mm to 54mm, mounted on an appropriately-sized gaming base where applicable. Cavalry models are permitted.

4. Best Regiment Or Squad
This category is for regiments, squads, units, etc. of five (5) or more infantry or cavalry models from any genre; squadrons of bike-mounted models are permitted provided they are at least five (5) models. All units must be “legal” in game terms. All models must be presented on an appropriately-sized gaming base where applicable. Display bases, movement trays, etc. are welcome, but the judges must be able to remove the miniatures from the display base for judging.

5. Best Large Monster Or Vehicle
This category is for single vehicles, dreadnoughts, warjacks, walkers, monstrous creatures, etc. It also includes warbeasts, monsters, chariots, war machines, etc. Models should be mounted on an appropriately-sized gaming base if applicable. Many vehicle models are not supplied with a base and in that case it is quite acceptable for you to mount the vehicle on a reasonably sized base (no more than 20mm larger than the vehicle itself). Please note that small-scale vehicles or monsters may be entered in this category as well as Category #6.

6. Best Small-Scale Miniature
This category is for small-scale miniatures, meaning models sculpted in 15mm scale or smaller. Entries may be a single model such as a Flames of War vehicle or Warmaster monster or a single game-base of infantry such as a stand of Epic 40K infantry or Flames of War gun and crew. Entries should include an appropriately sized gaming base where applicable. Note that while miniatures such as Necron Scarabs or Trollkin Pygs are certainly small, they are not small-scale and will not be accepted in this category.

7. The Youngbloods Category
This category is only open to competitors 14 years of age or younger. Your entry should abide by the rules of the Single Miniature categories; human-sized or smaller from any genre, standard-sized cavalry models are allowed (no monsters). Your entry must be mounted on an appropriately-sized gaming base where applicable.

8. The Open Category
The Open Category allows for everything above and then some. Your entry can be anything from a single tiny model to a sweeping diorama and anything in between. The complete entry must be no larger than 18” x 18” x 18”. The judges will be looking for well-painted and well-presented models demonstrating originality, imagination, and consistency with the spirit of the game worlds.

The Entries

Each competitor may only submit one entry per category, but may enter as many categories as he or she wishes.

Each entry must be solely the work of the entrant; all conversion, sculpting, basing, painting, etc. must have been done by the person entering the miniature(s). This does not include display plinths.

Each entry must be submitted by the hobbyist in person; no entries will be accepted on behalf of hobbyists not in attendance. Entering someone else’s work, either as your own or on their behalf, is not permitted.

Each entry (aside from the Open Category) must be mounted on an appropriate gaming base where applicable. Equivalent round bases may be used instead of square bases (and vice versa) if desired. If the production model does not come with a base (for example many vehicles) or has an integrated base (for example many Reaper miniatures), entrants are not required to add one.

“Appropriately-sized” bases means a base that looks proportionate in relation to the miniature. For example, most single miniatures come with a 20mm, 25mm, or 30mm base, and the base a model came with will always be acceptable. You may mount your model on a slightly larger base than it came with if you feel it allows for a better presentation of your miniature. However, if the base is larger than 40mm for a single figure (for example), the judges may decide to move it to another category.

Display bases and plinths are allowed, but will not be taken into account during the judging process. Models with display bases should be easily removable from these bases. If the entry has a display base that is permanently part of the model, your entry will only be eligible for the Open category.

No entry that has won or placed at any Games Day Golden Demon competition, Privateer Press Grandmaster painting contest, or previous AdeptiCon Rogue Demon will be accepted.

In all cases, the judges reserve the right to move models from one category to another they deem more appropriate. The judges will disqualify any entries that do not abide by the rules of the contest.

The judges’ decisions are final.

The judges and staff will be as careful as possible with entries, but AdeptiCon and attendant staff will not be responsible for any loss or damage that might occur.

A Note On Cheating: Failure to follow the posted rules, (especially the one about entering work that is not your own) will result in disqualification of the entry or entries in question, the forfeiture of any prizes and/or awards, and may include the permanent ban of the entrant from future AdeptiCon painting events.

The Awards

  • Each category will receive a first (Gold), second (Silver), and third (Bronze) place award.
  • The Best in Show award will come from the pool of first place winners in each category (including the Open category).
  • Manufacturer’s Choice Awards (to be announced)
